RE:collection 2007

In 2004, 2005 and 2006 Vision Forum produced a DVD set of some of the best films from the year's film festival! It was usually 4 DVDs for about $45 and was a great way to take home a great collection of Christian movies. Except there was one problem! None of the money made from the DVD sets went to the filmmakers who made the movies.

NOW INTRODUCING: "RE:collection 2007"
A DVD compilation of some of the best short films that were shown at the 2007 San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival (SAICFF). This DVD is ideal for families who enjoy good, clean entertainment. All films were created by independent, Christian filmmakers.

3 DVDs for $29.95 - Click Here for a list of the films included!

The best part about this collection is that the profits are distributed to the filmmakers! "The royalty is calculated based on the length of the film and the final rank that the film achieved in the SAICFF competition. This is a very fare arrangement because higher ranked films will receive more and longer films will receive more."

This DVD set has been put together by John Vines and members from Dallas Christian Filmmakers. Visit ChristianShortFilms.com for more info about "RE:collection 2007."

Quality of Christian Films

The Christian Film Industry:
Craft Versus Content

"The Christian film industry has been around for several decades. Throughout its history, two philosophies have pitted Christian filmmakers against one another. Disunity between the arguments of craft versus content continues today.

During the 70s, the message was king, and film quality was pathetic. Churches didn’t mind the poor quality because they received their message and had nothing competing for their attention. Films were delivered to churches on 16mm film, and numerous companies enjoyed great cash flow."

So where are we today? How do we get better? Every Christian film maker should take 7min and read this article by CJ Powers! - click here (this one is different than the article I posted about several days ago)

Who knows, you might even see someone you recognize in one of the BTS pics used in the article ;)

Garden Workshop Video

One reason I wasn't able to participate in the 36hr Video Contest was due to a project I had already scheduled.

"Want to do a garden, but you just don't know where to start? This is a fantastic opportunity to have a hands on learning experience and learn how to grow your own veggies. Terry Morris has been gardening for 15 years and will share what he has learned through his years of experience." Visit the website here.

The Morris family, from Joel's Journey, hosted the event. There was an hour of teaching and then a hands-on demonstration/practice time with the event wrapping up with a tour of the farm! Stay tuned...DVD is in the works!

CJ Powers on Screenwriting

CJ Powers is a seasoned professional in the film making industry and Nathaniel Bluedorn has posted a Q&A/interview with him on ChristianFilmmakers.org.

"During grade school my dad let me use the family equipment to shoot short stories and I caught the bug. I wrote and directed my first professional television commercial at age 18. By 19 my first documentary aired nationally on CBS." ~CJ Powers

This is a really good article for anyone who is or aspires to be a writer.
One of the questions that I found really interesting was this, - "You told me recently that Christian films are often bad because they lack expertise in the crafts of writing, directing and editing. You said it takes 10,000 hours of practise to be a top contender, while most Christians spend less than 2,000 hours at their craft. Could you explain more about this?"

Children's Heart Series

"Samaritan’s Purse will be premiering a new reality show about the Children’s Heart Project in April. A website is going up shortly with more information and screening dates and times on select cable networks." - Arthur Rasco

When I heard about this I was thinking ya ok...not too interesting, I'll give the trailer a whirl anyway. Wow! I was really impressed with the touching and compelling stories that were "teased" in the trailer. Worth a watch for sure!

April 1st - Are you a fool?

This is not a “Test your knowledge” quiz, nor a “See if you can score higher than your friends” quiz. This test was made as a tool to help us “examine and probe our ways, and let us return to the LORD.”
